I was building a computer for a friend and as the true geek that I am, I refuse to send it off without applying all of the security and bugfix updates first. I open up Internet Explorer and navigate on over to the windows update site and kick off the updates.
Windows update gladly shows all the updates I need. I select them, hit install and watch it download all of them and then initialize installation. Suddenly it fails with an error similar to this one:

After going nuts for a while, I decided to reload the guts of the windows update program, which finally worked. Continue reading ‘Windows Update Failed - Here’s How to Fix It’
I was having some trouble trying to get FTP over SSL on a Globalscape SFTP (Secure FTP) server working behind an ISA Firewall. Once I got it working, I figured I’d post the configuration to hopefully help you avoid the headache of figuring it out on your own.
On the ISA server I created two new rules to open the correct ports. Continue reading ‘Configuring Globalscape SFTP Behind an ISA Firewall’
In the Wordpress K2 Theme, the title text is automatically placed on the left hand side about halfway down the header. This works beautifully if you have the plain blue background that comes enabled by default with the K2 them, but can cause problems if you decide to use the custom header image option. This basically lets you use a picture as the header.
If the picture has light and dark colors that the title text will overlay on, you can find yourself in a situation where part of the title text is unreadable because the color of the text blends in with the color of the picture.
Another scenario could simply be that the text covers part of the image that you want visible.
In either case, you can move the K2 theme header text up or down by adjusting the value in the file below. Continue reading ‘Wordpress K2 - How To Move Title Text Up or Down’
So what can I say? I must have been a VERY good boy this year. The chick bought me a Breitling Super Avenger. She gave it to me as a combo present for pretty much every holiday for the rest of the year due to the cost.
I’ve been eyeing the Breitling Super Avenger for about a year now and even tried it on once in the store. The problem is that I don’t have the balls to pay $4,000 for a watch on my own. I just had a lot of trouble justifying it to myself. Now that’s not to say that I’m cheap. I would have no problem at all spending that money on my wife and I actually have been known to buy her pretty expensive things.
That being said, I’m not sure where my interest in Breitling came from, but I definitely started noticing them more and more over the last several years. I considered Rolex, but that has the air of a stuffy old man’s watch (I’m sure I’ll get heat from the Rolex fans for that), I also looked at Omega, but it just didn’t catch my eye. A few weeks ago, my wife went to the Ear, Nose and Throat doctor as she had seen something on TV about cleaning out your ears with some kind of solution that you get from the pharmacy. Inspired, she jaunted off to the local CVS and got the goods and fired it off into her ears. Promptly after applying this magical elyxir she couldn’t hear jack out of one ear.
She goes for an appointment at the ENT, where they find that some dissolved wax was stuck to her ear drum. They pulled out a mini shop vac and sucked off the offending matter and all is well. Then my wife asked a fateful (for me) question: “Can I still wear ear plugs?”. Which is answered with a question from the doc, “why do you wear ear plugs?”. The answer of course, is because I snore when I sleep. Not your normal honking through your nose snoring, but more like I take a breath then hold my breath then suddenly fire it out. The wife says it sounds like I stop breathing and make a ruccus starting up again. Well that’s all it took for the doc, “It sounds to me like your husband is the one that should be here, not you”. Last night was a wonderful evening. A friend of mine was also taking his first degree last night, so we met and drove over to the lodge together. We were greeted by several Brothers that we had met at prior lodge events that were open to non members. We felt quite natural and had no awkward feelings at all.
We headed inside the lodge where the tables were set and several very large six foot long party sandwiches and other food awaited. We loaded up our plates and took a seat.
At the table were several masons that I Continue reading ‘First Degree Completed - Welcome Brother!’
By this time next week, I’ll have joined the Brotherhood of Freemasonry having taken the first degree and become an Entered Apprentice. I’m excited but at the same time a bit nervous as I’m not completely sure of what will be involved. I do have a general idea from seeing Freemasonry specials on Discovery Channel and the likes but not enough to feel secure that I won’t embarrass myself.
I did get an accidental peek into the ceremony while reading my latest Freemasonry book Continue reading ‘A Week To Entered Apprentice’
This is the first masonic book that I’ve read. Upon deciding to join the fraternity, a good friend of mine who also recently joined brought me over to his house and pulled out his newly acquired masonic library. We are a lot alike in that respect. When we get involved in something new, we want to know as much as possible about it and to understand it as completely as possible. Now, with Freemasonry, you have to think before diving in as I do NOT want to know about the details of the rituals or secrets of The Craft. Instead, I want to know about its history, where it came from, where it is, where it’s going. Continue reading ‘Freemasons For Dummies - Book Review’
I’ve known that the masons exist for years. Unfortunately, that’s about all I’ve known. I knew that they were secretive and that they had the odd looking symbol with the G in the middle but didn’t know what it meant. The few times I spoke to people that were masons and I would ask them about it, they would often say jokingly, “I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you”. I assumed that since I had asked about it and they told me little despite my interest, that it must be an invitation only organization and I left it at that. Well, you know what they say about assuming things… Continue reading ‘Deciding To Become A Freemason’
Plenty of sex before conception could well be the key to encouraging a woman’s body to accept pregnancy.
A quick summary of the article below:
The scientists in this study found that some women’s immune systems tended to fight off the semen of her partner as well as embryos and placentas. This would result in failure to conceive, miscarriage and/or still birth.
They found that women that were regularly exposed to the semen of the intended child’s father, were far less likely to experience the negative results listed above. More interestingly, they also found that it didn’t seem to make a difference whether the semen was ingested vaginally or orally (through normal sex or oral sex). They haven’t studied whether the same holds true with other forms of intercourse.
Obviously, the effects are only gained by actual exposure to semen Continue reading ‘Regular Exposure To Semen May Help Infertility’
